Reflections -- Sylvia & Jerry

Season's Greetings from the Argetsingers

December 2008

Another year has quickly come and gone. Can't figure out where it went. But we both remain happy and reasonably healthy. Hope you are even better.

Sadie remains the high point in our days. We love and spoil her, but she gives us tremendous joy. We have become typical, doting pet owners that can't do enough for their dogs. Fortunately she is well behaved by nature so we don't have problems.

Sylvia continues to work three days a week at the local Habitat for Humanity. She works hard. The Re-Store keeps growing and having record sales. They are talking of a new building to accommodate it.

Jerry, does taxes with AARP from January through April and not much else, except what needs doing around the house. Although taking care of nearly four acres, a small garden, firewood for the winter, etc., does take quite a bit of time. His New Year's resolution was to start cooking a least one meal a week from a menu and to follow recipes. We've have had some very interesting as well as tasty dishes. The gift subscription to “Bon Appetit”magazine helps a lot.

Although we try to take one BIG annual vacation, we had to cancel this year's trip to Alaska due to the death of Sylvia's Mother in June. Sylvia was able to spend a couple of weeks with Violet before she passed away. Jerry went for a shorter time for the funeral. We also went over for our annual 2-week trip in late September. Though we enjoyed visiting with friends and family it was lonesome without Sylvia's Mother.

Jerry's “sibling reunion” was in Winona, Minnesota, in August. Pretty good digs and meals – at a lovely hillside vineyard overlooking the Mississippi River. And the week before Jerry returned for the 150th anniversary celebrations at the church in Mantorville where his Dad was pastor during his high school years. We also had a number of shorter visits around the area: Minneapolis for New Years, Topeka, Kansas City, Omaha, Lake of the Ozarks, etc.

So except for a growing number of aches and pains one gets with age, all is well at the Argetsinger homestead. We look forward to hearing from you this holiday season. We would also enjoy a visit should you find yourself bound for anywhere near lovely Northwest Arkansas.

Again, a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you and yours!
